Genesis Awarded SBIA Contract

It gives me great pleasure to announce that after a competitive process involving several security providers throughout the Lower Mainland; Genesis Security has been awarded a three-year contract to provide Security Patrol services to the Strathcona Business Improvement Association. Pictured to the right is Mr. John Van Luven, the acting Executive Director of the SBIA, and myself shaking hands today after signing the contract.

The Strathcona BIA represents over 850 business, property owners and not-for-profit organizations that display a broad mix of commercial, industrial, residential and retail zoning with over 200 properties officially designated as heritage buildings.

All of us at Genesis are very excited to be given this opportunity and look forward to participating in the overall action plan of the SBIA to “maintain a cooperative effort in revitalizing the area of Strathcona by facilitating a safe and vibrant destination to live, work, set up shop, and have fun; done through the innovative programs and strategies to develop the unique characteristics of the area”.

The start-up date for this project is April 1st, 2007 and we look forward to seeing you then and in the meantime we encourage all visitors to our blog to visit the Strathcona BIA website at www.strathconabia.com

Benefits of the Home Check

A couple of Monday’s ago one of our Community Patrollers was completing a Home Check for a Genesis client who was away on extensive leave and discovered a ruptured pipe that had began leaking due to the freezing temperatures.

Thankfully he was able to turn off the water supply and contact the Property Reference before any extensive damage was done, but it did get me thinking about what a valuable tool the Home Checks are and the role they can play in your home insurance policy.

Looking for more details I contacted one of our brokers, Tracy Dodds CIP Senior Account Executive for Lansdowne Insurance Agencies. I asked her what exactly could disqualify a homeowner from filing a claim in this type of situation.

Tracy responded that loss due to freezing is not covered if the insured premises are unoccupied 4 or more consecutive days and a competent person has not been attending
the dwelling each day of your absence to ensure that the heat has been maintained OR if the water supply has not been shut off and all pipes and domestic water containers drained.

Remember next time you leave for holidays or any other extended period of time the importance of the above noted information and please feel free to call our offices for more information relating to the Home Check at 604-684-7678 or contact Tracy through Lansdowne Insurance Agencies at 604-717-1489.

Positive Feedback

I hope everyone enjoyed their Holiday Season and found time to spend with their families and loved ones before heading back to the daily routine of work.

When I came back to the office I found a letter on my desk from a business that operates out of the Kerrisdale area and I thought I'd share it with you as it's always nice to pass on positive comments in relation to this program.

Alam, the manager for the Mac’s convenience store on Dunbar Ave., comments in the letter that both he and his employees feel much safer since the Smart Car Program. He goes on to say that even though he is not a “client” of ours we still assist them whenever called and are always quick to respond and very professional.

For me, a letter like this that comes into our office really makes my day.

It is a testament to the hard work that our Community Patrol drivers do each and every day and their dedication to ensuring that everyone in the community who requests help gets it.

At this particular Macs store, a number of incidents occurred where a group of youths appeared to be targeting the store for thefts and at one point a clerk was assaulted when trying to stop an individual in the group.

Our team now does random checks and is called whenever the clerk is in a situation that they are uncomfortable with.

During our last meeting with the Community Policing Office this matter was brought to their attention and we remind all people that reside or operate businesses within our patrolling area that should an emergency situation arise they are to call 911 immediately and report the incident.

Genesis Security will be their to assist you now and in the future and its letters like these that reaffirm our belief in this program on a daily basis.
